Impossibly Cold.

I am normally not one to complain about the cold. Living in Eastern Ontario, cold is just the way it is in the winter. But several days of serious deep freeze and I'm a little grumpy about the weather. I switched my lesson this week from Sunday to Friday, to avoid the worst of it. Still, it turns out it was -19C(-2.2F), -25C(-13F) with the wind chill. In the arena, which is an unheated coverall, it actually wasn't too bad, surprisingly. Tomorrow is supposed to be -24C without the wind, so definitely a good decision to move the lesson. I would have just canceled at those temps - it's just not good for horse or rider.  Even Hazel (my dog) is feeling the cold and I've never seen her get cold before, only bothered by the salt on the roads. It figures that just when I need extra warmth the most, my husband is away for work. In Vancouver. Which is 6C (43F) right now. Freaking summer, compared to this. Worst of all, it's too cold to actually do things that help me appreciate winter, like cross-country skiing.

Maybe you've got our cold? Welcome to it. It stayed with us for two months, so if it is the same, just be prepared, lol!
Horses are not affected - look up one of my older blogpost, there has been research done - but take care of yourself. It is not easy to work the horse without breeding deeply.

I don't think I can take 2 months of this, Horse of Course! I don't worry about the horses being turned out but don't ride if it's -20 or colder. They have to breathe deeply during work too and the ground is SO hard. Honestly, it's just not fun.

I really want to crack a joke about staying inside and "breeding deeply" as a better alternative ;) Sorry HoC, I couldn't resist.

I was NOT smart this morning. I looked at my trusty weather.ca before taking Hazel for a walk. I saw -13 and thought, wow, it warmed up a LOT more than they had forecast. I didn't think about the fact that I was playing with the Celsius and Fahrenheit buttons when writing my post last night to report the conversion for my American friends. So, I dressed for -13. Fahrenheit.

I soon realized my error and I swear I barely survived the 30 minutes. I hope Hazel enjoyed it because I think it's the longest walk she'll be getting today!

Ummm, guess I shouldn't comment that I'm in Florida right now??? Hope the deep freeze moves on soon - another two (and a bit) months of cold is not a welcome prospect! Maybe I won't come home!

Laura, I'm sticking my tongue out at you! I actually thought of you earlier and hoped, for your sake, that you were still in Florida. It would NOT be nice to come home to this! I owe you a bunch of answers to some of your questions...I will email you!

That sucks RB ! I used to work outside in that sort of nonsense nearly every winter and I can't say I miss it very much.

I meant, of course, that I dressed for -13 Celcius. Brain freeze.
